MOSCOW, Idaho – Following a week in which a stifling defense shut down Utah Tech in a 20-6 win, the Idaho Vandals football team is ranked No. 8 in both the Stats Perform Top 25 as well as the AFCA Coaches Top 25 polls. The Vandals were ranked No. 10 in last week's coaches poll, and stayed the same in the Stats Perform poll.
This is the 38
th consecutive week that Idaho has been ranked in the top 25, making this the second-longest streak of being ranked in program history (42: 1992-1995). In 30 of those 38 weeks, Idaho has been ranked in the top 10.
Idaho has moved its way up the polls with a nationally elite run game and defense through the first three games of the season. Behind a stout offensive line and a stable of running backs, the Vandal ground game is ranked 11
th in the nation and first in the Big Sky Conference at 220 yards per game. Idaho's defense also leads the conference and is limiting opponents to just 310 total yards per game.
In the Vandals' victory against Utah Tech this past weekend, running back
Art Williams set a career high with 144 rushing yards, and UI rushed for nearly 300 yards. On the other side of the ball, the defense never let Utah Tech get in the red zone, limiting the Trailblazers to two field goals of over 50 yards.
