Final Non-Conference Trip Sends Volleyball to Music City

MOSCOW, Idaho - After starting the 2025 season at home, Idaho Volleyball will travel to Nashville, TN for the final action of the non-conference slate. The Vandals have been to Seattle and two stops in North Dakota and will head the farthest east of any of their road trips in 2025.

Idaho is headed to the Music City to compete in the Tiger Invitational, hosted by Tennessee State. Indiana State and Chattanooga will join the teams for the round-robin series, taking place on Sep. 19 and 20. The Vandals will take on Indiana State and the host Tennessee State on the first day of competition on Friday, and finish off the action vs. the Mocs on Saturday.

SCOUTING INDIANA STATE
After three weeks of non-conference play, Indiana State sits at 3-6 on the season, having collected one win in each tournament. The Sycamores picked up their first win of the year over SIUE, 3-2, swept Merrimack at the NIU Invite, and defeated Eastern Illinois, 3-1, at their home tournament last weekend. ISU has some familiarity with the Big Sky Conference already this year, hosting Montana in Terre Haute in week three and falling, 0-3.

Kira Holland leads the team in kills after three weeks with 133, trailed by Ava Robart who has collected 92. Emily Weber has been the go-to setter for the Sycamores and has tallied 188 assists to date. Avery Hales has nearly crossed the century mark herself with 92. Senior Kimora Whetstone has collected a team-high 28.0 total blocks in three weeks, leading the team despite standing at just 5'9". 6'1" junior Ella Scott is just behind her fellow blocker with 25.0.

SCOUTING TENNESSEE STATE
Tennessee State comes into their home openers sitting at 1-6. The Tigers collected their first win over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, on Sept. 5.

The three-pronged attack of Aliyah Harris (44), Carsyn Stansberry (41), and Maygan Miller-Garcia (39) provide a balanced attack for TSU, and the three are joined by I'onna Jones in the group averaging at least 2.1 points per set. Miller-Garcia also leads the Tigers in total blocks with 16, and Sagaia Reilly has started all seven matches at setter and has tallied 139 assists, more than 100 over second place on the team.

SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
After three weeks, Chattanooga sits at a 4-5 record going into Nashville. The Mocs opened their season with a 3-2 win over Norfolk State at the UCF Invite, swept UC Riverside, and even stole a set against the Big 12 hosts. Since then, they won a set vs. Memphis and are coming off of back-to-back wins over Lamar and UT-Martin in which they won six of seven total sets.

Senior hitter Sydney Jackwin is averaging 3.33 kills/set and has collected 110 overall. Gracie Rose and Kynli Kirkendoll are next in line on offense with 57 and 55 kills, respectively. Kirkendoll has emerged as one of the top blockers in the country, as her season total of 42 to date is a top 40-mark in all of DI volleyball.
