Track and Field Shakes Up Record Book at Lauren McCluskey Memorial

MOSCOW, Idaho - Rhyan Madden's 38.61 school record beating time in Saturday's 300-meter race capped off a strong personal best-filled three days for Idaho Track and Field at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial inside the P1FCU Kibbie Dome.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Madden's 300 attempt was the first in her college career at the unique distance. The Spokane native's time beat out former Vandal great Prabhasha Wickramaarachchi's from the 2024 Don Kirby Invite by nearly a full second and was the gem of an excellent second meet this season for the junior, who ran a personal record 24.31 in Friday's 200 to take the top spot in the meet. Fellow junior Blossom Omogor also broke the 39.49 UI record barrier during the 300, crossing the line in 39.43 to place her name second in the Vandal record book.

The second date on the 2026 schedule marked the season opener for many of Idaho's top jumpers, with triple specialists Shawn Twumasi Ampofo and Sydnie Zywina, and high jumper Cami Cvitkovich all launching themselves into a top-five spot in program history. Cvitkovich leaped into second in the record book by clearing the bar set at 1.75 meters on Friday night, also putting herself second on this season's Big Sky performance list. Entering his senior campaign as the reigning indoor conference champion, Twumasi Ampofo leaned into the pressure, delivering a personal best 15.84-meter leap on Saturday afternoon to place himself in the 16th spot in the nation in 2026. Zywina wrapped things up Saturday by nearly beating her PR in her first jump as a Vandal. The 2025 NAIA All-American posted a 12.26-meter jump, sliding into fifth all-time.

Gioele Tengattini set a personal record in Saturday's shot put with the second-longest throw in the conference this season at 17.30 meters, nearly 40cm better than his previous long. Evan Hartt finished just behind Tengattini, beating his best from the season-opening Spokane Showcase by over two-and-a-half meters.

Hanna Tait took home the pentathlon title by amassing 3987 points over the five events on Thursday evening, while setting personal bests in three events: the 60-meter hurdles, high jump, and shot put. The sophomore's total moves her up to second in Vandal history. Senior Griffen Parsells cracked into the top-10 in the 800 record book with a time of 1:52.04, the fifth best in the conference this season.

Idaho's relay teams posted impressive times over the course of the meet, with the women's 4x400 squad of Maiya Brunoro, Lara Holzhauer, Omogor, and Madden, piecing together a 3:43.18, good for fourth in Idaho history. Brunoro, Omogor, and Madden are veterans at the event and were part of the record-breaking 4x4 team a season ago that shattered the 12-year-old record by over a second.

UP NEXT
The Vandals continue their 2026 season next weekend on Saturday, January 31, at the Inland Northwest Invitational in Spokane, before returning home to host the Idaho Team Challenge on February 6.
