MOSCOW, Idaho – The Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team (16-5, 7-1) returns home to close out the first half of Big Sky play, and will host the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (7-15, 3-6) in ICCU Arena on Saturday afternoon.
The game will tip off at 2 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN+. Davis Hagen and Stephen Madison will be on the call on TV. Doug Taylor, the Voice of the Vandals, can be heard over the airwaves on the Vandal Athletics Radio Network. Idaho will be hosting its annual Tribal Nations Game, celebrating the local history and heritage of the region. The Vandals will be wearing special shirts in warm ups to celebrate the event.
Saturday's game will close out the first half of conference play for Idaho, and the Vandals will have played every team in the Big Sky once after they face the Lumberjacks. Idaho is currently 7-1 in conference play, half a game behind Montana State for first place. Idaho also boasts a great homecourt advantage and has a 7-1 record in ICCU Arena this season.
Idaho has been on fire lately, winning five games in a row and eight of its last nine. The Vandals also play one of the most exciting brands of basketball in the entire country, leading the Big Sky in scoring at nearly 80 points per game. The Vandal attack is led by
Kyra Gardner and
Hope Hassmann, both of whom are scoring 13.5 points per game. Hassmann has led the Vandals in scoring in each of the last three games.
The mighty Vandal offense has put up 80 or more points 12 times this season, tallying an 11-1 record when they do.
The Vandals are also one of the best rebounding teams in the nation. Idaho currently ranks in the top 15 in the country in every major rebounding statistic, including total rebounds per game (46.89), in which the Vandals are fourth best in the entire country.
NAU underwent some major transformations this past offseason, hiring a new head coach and reshaping its roster in the transfer portal. The Lumberjacks currently have the third highest scoring offense in the conference (71.8 ppg), and a defense that is surrendering 74.2 ppg – last in the Big Sky.
IDAHO NOTES
- The Vandals have made 149 three-pointers this season and have made a three ball in 564 consecutive games.
- With Arthur Moreira at the helm, Idaho has the first Brazilian head coach in Division I history. The Vandals also have the most Brazilians on roster of any team in Division I with three.
- Idaho has one of the youngest coaching staffs in Division I, with an average age of 32.
- Debora Dos Santos just surpassed the 1,000-career point plateau, while Hope Hassmann is at 953.
