MOSCOW, Idaho - The mighty Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team (17-5, 8-1) kept its momentum rolling on Saturday, going wire-to-wire against the NAU Lumberjacks (7-16, 3-7) by a score of 94-71 in front of over 1,000 of the Vandal faithful in ICCU Arena.
Idaho's elite offense got rolling early in its annual Tribal Nations Game, as
Ana Pinheiro got the scoring started just 15 seconds into the game, as she laid in two of her 14 to start the party.
Hope Hassmann and
Lorena Barbosa each contributed six points to the Vandal tally in the first quarter, and Idaho ended the period with a 24-16 lead.
Debora Dos Santos, who was playing in front of her family that was in attendance from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, scored the first four Vandal points of the second quarter. Dos Santos, who connected on her first seven attempts from the floor, went on to close the game with 18 points. Idaho's lead in the second expanded to as much as 16 following a bucket from Pinheiro, and the mighty Vandals had a 45-32 lead as the horn sounded for the half.
The 32-point third quarter outburst was highlighted by an 18-4 run from Idaho to make the score 73-45, and the game was well in hand by then.
Ana Beatriz Passos Alves da Silva scored a layup for the final Vandal points of the quarter, as the red-hot Vandals took a 77-51 lead to the fourth.
Idaho went on to score 17 more points in the fourth to claim a 94-71 victory. Idaho has now won six games in a row and is 8-1 on its home floor.
