Vandals Blank Portland State, Secure 100th Career Win for Head Coach

HILLSBORO, Ore. - Vandal soccer earned a 2-0 road victory over Portland State on Thursday, highlighted by two first-time collegiate goal scorers and a milestone 100th career victory for the Head Coach Jeremy Clevenger,

With the win, Idaho improved to 9-3-5 overall and 3-1-3 mark in conference play, while Portland State fell to 3-13-0 overall and 1-6-0 in conference action.

Idaho broke through in the 24th minute when senior Tori Peters recorded her first career goal off an assist from Hallie Prinos-Grumbach. Following a short corner kick, Prinos-Grumbach played the ball into the box, where Peters connected on a powerful right-footed shot from 12 yards out, sending it into the upper center of the net. Hallie Prinos-Grumbach and Boltz were credited with assists on the play, giving Idaho a 1-0 advantage going into the half.

Only three minutes into the second half, freshman Quinn Mueller joined Peters in recording her first collegiate goal. Boltz beat a Portland State defender down the left side before sending a square ball into the box. Mueller made her mark with a right-footed strike from 12 yards out, placing the ball just under the crossbar to extend Idaho's lead to 2-0.

The Vandals continued to create opportunities throughout the second half, recording 10 of their 13 total shots in the final 45 minutes. Peters, Mueller and Caitlyn Riggs led Idaho's offensive effort with three shots apiece, while Mueller placed two of her attempts on goal.

Defensively, goalkeeper Paula Flores recorded four saves, securing her 27th career shutout. Flores made three of those saves in the second half as Portland State increased its offensive pressure, attempting 12 shots after halftime.

Portland State finished with a 15-13 advantage in total shots, but Idaho held the edge in both shots on goal, 5-4, and corner kicks, 5-3.
