GREELEY, Colo. – The Idaho women's soccer team battled to a scoreless draw against Northern Colorado Thursday afternoon at Jackson Stadium, extending its unbeaten streak to five matches.
The Vandals move to 7-2-4 overall and 1-0-2 in Big Sky Conference play, while the Bears sit at 3-5-3 overall and 0-0-1 in conference play.
Idaho had an early opportunity to take control of the match when the Vandals were awarded a penalty kick in the seventh minute. Makenna Stuart stepped up to the spot, but Northern Colorado goalkeeper Thordis Melsted made the save to keep the match scoreless.
The Bears responded with offensive pressure throughout the opening half, outshooting the Vandals 6-1 and earning five corner kicks. Despite the opportunities, Idaho's defense held strong, keeping Northern Colorado off the scoreboard heading into halftime.
The Vandals found more offensive opportunities in the second half, recording four shots, including two on goal. However, Melsted continued to hold Idaho scoreless, finishing the afternoon with three saves.
Northern Colorado maintained the advantage in total shots, 11-5, and corner kicks, 9-2, but the Vandals held a 3-2 edge in shots on goal.
Idaho goalkeeper Paula Flores recorded two saves in the match, securing another clean sheet for the Vandals and extending her program-record career shutout total to 24.
The draw marks Idaho's third consecutive unbeaten result to open Big Sky Conference play, following a 1-1 draw against Weber State and a 3-0 victory over Idaho State.
