QUOTABLES
"What a game! First of all, I want to give a lot of credit to Coach Sobolewski. That program is the standard of toughness and rebounding in our conference, and I thought we did a great job matching that. Both defenses made it really difficult to score, so it became a battle of wills, and that's what it takes to win on the road.
This game means more than just a regular season big sky game. It's a big in-state rivalry, and both teams approached it like it. It's really exciting to bring King Spud home after such a long time!" –

POCATELLO, Idaho – For the first time since the 1960's, King Spud is coming home to Moscow.
In a slugfest of a game, the Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball (21-5, 12-1), defeated the Idaho State Bengals (17-8, 10-4) by a score of 65-50 in Reed Gym on Saturday.
Despite controlling most of the first quarter, it was a back-and-forth opening period in front of a large crowd in Reed Gym. The Vandal lead grew to as much as six points following a pair of free throws from
Ella Uriarte, but ISU cut its deficit to just a pair by the time the horn sounded. The Vandals owned an 18-16 lead at the end of the quarter.
After conceding a bucket early on in the second that tied the game, the Vandals went on a 9-0 run to create some separation.
Kyra Gardner had three of those points and Debora Dos Santos scored a layup to put Idaho up 27-18 with around four minutes left in the half. A
Hope Hassmann three-ball with under a minute left pushed the lead back to nine, but ISU scored the final four points of the half, making it 34-29 as the teams broke for the locker rooms.
The Bengal attack showed up in the early parts of the third, outscoring Idaho 9-4 to tie the game at 38. Neither team could convert for three minutes until a Gardner fastbreak and-one layup finally broke the deadlock with 5:09 on the clock. Following the made free throw, the Vandals held a 41-38 lead, but ISU immediately scored to dig into the Idaho lead. Over the last 3:28 of the third, the Vandal offense was sparked, and Idaho went on a 12-2 run, culminating in a buzzer-beating layup by Uriarte that gave Idaho the separation and momentum it needed.
The Idaho defense flustered ISU's offense, limiting it to just eight points for the entire quarter, and the Bengals could never get within single digits, as Idaho State went scoreless for over a four-minute stretch in the fourth. Dos Santos scored six of her points in the final stanza, and the mighty Idaho Vandals won comfortably in Pocatello, sealing its 10
th win in a row, and bringing King Spud back home to Moscow.
