MOSCOW, Idaho – More history was made in Moscow on Monday, as the Idaho Vandals Women's Basketball team closed out the regular season with a 75-64 win over the Eastern Washington Eagles.
It was a back-and-forth first quarter between the two old rivals who were squaring off for the 90
th time in rivalry history. At the 5:15 mark in the first, Debora Dos Santos scored a layup to give the Vandals the lead, which they maintained up until the three-second mark when EWU hit a three to close the first with a 19-18 lead.
The Vandals came out on fire in the second, scoring the first seven points of the quarter. EWU immediately clapped back with a 9-0 run, featuring a pair of three pointers and a converted and-one opportunity to regain its lead.
Kyra Gardner struck from beyond the arc to knot the game back up at 28. The Eagles then knocked down back-to-back three-pointers, which forced a Vandal timeout. Out of the break, Idaho's
Ana Pinheiro swerved through the lane and laid it off the glass for two points to put an end to the Eastern Washington run, but EWU maintained a 38-34 edge going into the half.
Eastern got up by as much as seven points in the third quarter on a few occasions. Near the three-minute mark of the quarter, Barbosa tiptoed along the baseline and dropped a dime to Pinheiro, who laid it in for her 13
th and 14
th points of the game, and the crowd of over 1,300 of the Vandal Family came roaring to life and helped swing momentum in Idaho's favor. With 44 seconds left in the third,
Hope Hassmann dished it to
Kyra Gardner at the top of the key, who then dashed through the Pride Gold paint and put up a floater that tied the game up at 46, which was the tally heading to the final quarter.
Idaho took the lead around the 8:40 mark in the fourth on a fastbreak layup by Hassmann, who took the game over to close out the regular season. The Eagles came back down the other side and knocked home a three to take the lead, but Hassmann wouldn't be denied. After regaining possession, she sprinted the other way, laid it off the glass after being fouled, converted the free-throw, and the Vandals wouldn't look back from there. Entering the fourth with just five points, Hassmann carried the black and gold with 20 of her career-high 25 points in the final stanza, and Idaho outscored EWU 29-18 to win its 26
th and final game of the regular season.
With the victory, Idaho tied the school record of 15 consecutive wins in the NCAA era. The Vandals snapped the previous program record for most conference wins in a season (16, 2018-19) and tied the 2004-05 Vandals for most home wins in a season (14).
The historic 2025-26 regular season comes to a close, but the Vandals press on to Boise, where they will play in Starch Madness. Idaho enters the Big Sky Conference tournament as the outright regular-season conference champions.
