Kuntz and Sturgis Earn Big Sky Weekly Honors

MOSCOW, Idaho - After a strong opening weekend of Idaho's outdoor season that saw seven Vandals earn event victories at the Sam Adams Classic in Spokane, Keenan Kuntz and Blake Sturgis were named Big Sky Athletes of the Week, earning a Black and Gold sweep of the men's awards after the first week of the outdoor season.

Kuntz backed up his stellar, record-breaking indoor season with a personal best 10.36 in the 100, becoming the eighth Vandal to break the 10.40 barrier. This award goes along with the growing list of nods for the Richland, Wash. native, and joins a weekly honor from the indoor season.

In his first meet for the Vandals, Sturgis took first in the javelin, launching a 66.62m (218'7") throw, a top-three mark in school history, and by far the best in the conference this season. The senior is only the fifth athlete in Idaho history with a throw longer than 66 meters and opens the season less than two meters shy of his 68.25m (223'11") personal best from April.
