CLOVIS, Calif. - After posting a Big Sky Athlete of the Week worthy performance in the outdoor season opener,
Blake Sturgis backed it up at his second meet of the year, the West Coast Relays hosted by Fresno State.
Sturgis' best throw of the day came on his third attempt, when the Spokane native launched a personal-best 68.29m (224'0") throw, the third longest in Idaho history. Heading into this weekend, the senior already held the top mark in the Big Sky, and his throw from Saturday would have placed him second at last season's conference meet. Sturgis' previous PR came last April at the Cougar Classic, where he threw for 68.25m (223' 11").
Baylee Wrobble was the other Vandal to compete in the Golden State this weekend. The sophomore found herself on the podium for the second straight meet to open the outdoor season, posting a 44.28m (145' 3") in the javelin to take second. Wrobble's throw is just short of her 45.72m (150'0") toss at last weekend's season opening Sam Adams Classic.
