Sturgis Earns Second Athlete of the Week Award

MOSCOW, Idaho - After resetting his personal best and moving his name to second in Vandal history with a strong weekend at the Beach Invitational, Blake Sturgis was named Big Sky Athlete of the Week, his second weekly award nod of the season.

The senior's incredible first season in Black and Gold reached its peak last weekend in Long Beach, where he broke the 70m (229'8") mark for the first time in his college career, a 71.32m (234') throw that ties Sturgis for 10th in the Big Sky record book and 18th longest nationally this season. The Spokane native has been dominant all year, earning a top three finish in each meet and throwing past the 66m (216'6") mark in all four meets to date and is one of only three Big Sky athletes to post a throw beyond 70m this season.

Sturgis' second conference Athlete of the Week honor is Idaho's sixth of the outdoor season, after Hanna Tait and the men's and women's 4x100m relay teams earned the award last week and standout sprinter Keenan Kuntz captured it alongside Sturgis in March.
