Sturgis Claims Third Weekly Award of Conference Season

MOSCOW, Idaho — Senior Blake Sturgis has been named the Big Sky Conference Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the third time this season, following his record-breaking performance at last Wednesday's Whitworth Last Chance Meet.
Sturgis set a new facility record with his 73.21m (240'2") throw in the javelin, a mark that moved him to 17th in the nation and second in Vandal history. The throw was nearly two meters beyond his previous personal record of 71.32m (234'0"), set at April's Beach Invitational, and extended his lead at the top of the Big Sky's performance list heading into this week's conference championship.

The Spokane native has been awarded the weekly honor on three occasions during the outdoor campaign, tied for the most by a male athlete in 2026 with Weber State's Wyatt Larkins.

The senior has been the conference's top javelin thrower all season and enters the 2026 Big Sky Outdoor Track and Field Championship as the clear favorite in the event.
