MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho soccer heads to the Bay Area Thursday evening for a matchup against San Francisco at Negoesco Stadium, with kickoff set for 6 PM The Vandals will take the road for the first time since their trip to South Dakota as they prepare for another non-conference test.
The Vandals are coming off with a 1-0 victory over Grand Canyon. Calli Chiarelli found the back of the net early in the match, scoring just over five minutes into the game. Idaho's defense held the Lopes without a goal for the remainder of the night, earning the Vandals another shutout. Idaho finished the match with a 12-7 edge in shots.
Idaho has gotten production from different parts of the lineup throughout the season. Multiple Vandals have contributed offensively, giving the team several options in the attack. That depth will be important as Idaho takes its offense on the road against the Dons.
On the defensive end, the Black and Gold have made keeping opponents off the scoreboard a key part of their season. Idaho has recorded five shutouts through seven matches, with Paula Flores anchoring the back line. Flores added another clean sheet against Grand Canyon and now has 22 career shutouts.
San Francisco enters Thursday's matchup with a 2-3-1 record after defeating Nevada, 1-0, on Sept. 6. The Dons have faced a mix of opponents throughout the opening weeks of the season, earning wins over CSU Bakersfield and Nevada while also picking up a draw against Sacramento State.
San Francisco will welcome Idaho to Negoesco Stadium following its most recent win over Nevada. The Dons will look to carry that momentum into Thursday's matchup as they take on the Vandals.
Thursday's meeting gives Idaho another chance to test itself away from Moscow while facing a San Francisco team coming off a shutout win of its own. The Vandals will bring their defensive consistency and balanced attack into the matchup as they take on the Dons in the Bay Area.
