MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho soccer battled throughout Thursday's road matchup at San Francisco, falling 1-0 to the Dons at Negoesco Stadium.
The Vandals stayed competitive from start to finish, putting together a strong defensive performance and continuing to battle for opportunities throughout the match. Both defenses held firm to open the evening, keeping the sheet clean on both sides in a scoreless first half.
USF would eventually break through in the 55th minute, but the Vandals kept the pressure on throughout, more than tripling the Dons' shot total (17-5) and posting more shots on goal (7) than total shots allowed in the contest. A scrappy contest that featured 21 combined fouls went the way of the board at the end, but Alyssa Hamilton and Mia Boltz led the way for Idaho with four shots apiece, Despite the result, UI's defense kept San Francisco from much offensive momentum outside of the deciding score, forcing the second-fewest shots from an opponent in a match this season.
Idaho now shifts its focus to UC Davis to close out its California road trip. The Vandals will travel to Davis looking to bounce back and finish the weekend with a strong performance.
UC Davis will host Idaho at Aggie Soccer Field on Sunday afternoon. The Vandals will look to carry the intensity from Thursday's match into the final game of the road trip while continuing to compete on both sides of the ball.
