Vandal Women Finish Fourth While Men Clutch Third at Season Opener

Live Results - AthleticLIVE

SPOKANE, Wash. -
The Vandal women took fourth at the Clash of the Inland Northwest, kicking off the season with solid results. Following their performance, the Idaho men clutched a strong third place in the 8K.

HEAR FROM COACH
"It was a solid opener for our crew at the Clash of the Inland NW. The first competition is always an opportunity to see where we are as a program and what we need to improve upon. I thought we had some real bright spots with both programs. We held out a few women and when we plug then into the lineup, I think we will have a very formidable front pack. Jesse Redding and Alex Terry continue to be bright spots for the program. On the men's side, we have a very young and talented group. When we note experience, we will have great opportunity for success. I though Miles Lechtenberg had a great race as a true freshman and Evan Jones had a breakout performance. Overall, it was a good start, but we know we have more to give and are excited for our next opportunity in two weeks."

WHAT HAPPENED
In the women's 6K, juniors Jesse Redding and Alex Terry stood out amongst the Vandals, taking home seventh and eighth place finishes. They each clutched new personal best times with their strong performances, as Redding came in at 21:02.4 and Terry at 21:17.3.

Crushing his first collegiate race, freshman Miles Lechtenberg was the first of the Vandal men to cross the 8K finish line, followed shortly by sophomore Evan Jones. Starting the season strong, Jones finished with a new best time of 24:45.3. Senior Zac Knapp was the third athlete to represent the Vandals across the line.
