2016:
Cowan led the Vandals in receptions with 48 and was second on the team in receiving yards with 547 ... he also was the team leader in touchdown receptions with six ... tied his career high yardage output of 118 yards at Appalachian State ... he finished the season 10th among FBS tight ends ... he earned honorable mention recognition on the all-Sun Belt team.
2015: Emerged as one of the nation’s premier tight ends ... finished the season with 48 catches for 624 yards – fourth among FBS tight ends ... also caught four touchdown passes and was known for his blocking ability as well ... long reception was 37 yards ... twice had games of more than 100 yards receiving (107 on seven catches vs. Wofford and 118 on 10 catches at Auburn) ... 10 receptions is a career high ... moved to tight end from receiver in the spring of 2015.
2014: Saw action in all 11 games ... in addition to playing receiver, he played on special teams and had solo tackles.
2013: Saw action in all 12 games as a true freshman ... caught two passes for 20 yards – one for 12 yards vs. Temple and one for 8 yards at Washington State.
High school: Cowan is following in the footsteps of his older brother, Bobby, who as an All-American punter for the Vandals and who holds most UI punting records. Trent Cowan was a first-team all-Greater St. Helen’s League player as a senior and a preseason all-state selection by the Tacoma News Tribune, and subsequently the paper’s all-state choice at receiver, defensive back and punter. He caught 55 passes for 798 yards as a senior and carried the ball 25 times for 213 yards. As the punter, he averaged nearly 40 yards per kick. He also served as Union’s placekicker.
