Franks enters his second season as the cornerbacks coach at Idaho, with outstanding results.
Under his tutelage, the Vandals jumped to 19th in the FCS in Passing Yards Allowed at 190 YPG, nearly 70 yards per game better than 2021. The Vandals also intercepted 16 passes, fifth-best in the FCS.
Cornerback Marcus Harris returned a fumble and an interception for a touchdown and earned second-team All-Big Sky honors while also garnering Hero Sports Sophomore All-American honors. Harris recorded 14 passes defended on the year, tied for third all-time on the Idaho single-season record book.
Franks came to Idaho from Washington State where he spent two seasons as a Defensive Quality Control Coach.

Prior to his time at WSU, he was the Defensive Coordinator for one season at Cabrillo College in Aptos, California.

He spent two seasons as the Assistant DBs coach for the Canadian Football League's BC Lions in 2017 and 2018. The Lions were either first or second in his two seasons for pass knockdowns and interceptions.

He was the defensive backs coach at Idaho State from 2013 to 2017. During his time in Pocatello, he was responsible for the defensive pass scheme. He recruited Southern California.

Franks was the DBs coach and Defensive Coordinator for the Spokane Shock during the 2012 season and coached High School ball at Ferris High School in Spokane for two seasons prior to his time with the Shock.

He played three seasons for the BC Lions from 2009-2011 and played one season with the Spokane Shock Indoor Football League in 2009. He was signed as a free agent after graduation with the Chargers.

Franks' name is all over the University of Idaho record books. He holds the Idaho single-season interception record when he grabbed nine during the 2006 season, a mark that led the NCAA that year. He also earned All-WAC First Team honors and Sports Illustrated Honorable Mention All-America honors. He had a 98-yard interception return touchdown against Utah State in 2006, the fourth-longest in Vandal history. He also holds the single-season school record for interception return yards with 220.
