Ben Malquist

Ben Malquist joined the Vandals in time for the 2024-25 season, beginning his first year in Moscow.

Ben arrived at UI after a two year stint as the throwers coach at Central Washington, where he covered shot put, hammer throw, discus, and weight throw.

During his time at Central Washington, multiple wildcat throwers made their marks on the school record book, including Payton Elenbaas, who had top-10 performances in the hammer and discus in 2024, and Brenna Board, who also sits at eighth in CWU history in the hammer throw.

Before arriving in Ellensburg, Malquist was a standout thrower for Western Washington in Bellingham. A two-time GNAC champion, his career highs include 16.76m (55’0) in the shot put, 42.01m (137’10”) in the hammer throw, and 45.54m (149’5) in the discus.
