Biography

2008-09: Despite being one of the nation’s smallest players, Otero was the NCAA’s biggest workhorse during the season. She led the NCAA in minutes played at 40.6. She spent a total of four minutes on the bench all year long and ended the season playing 701 consecutive minutes over a span of 18 games. Otero dished triple-digit assists for the second time in her career and moved into the Idaho all-time top-10 in career assists. She is now the WAC’s active leader in career assists. She hit season-bests in nearly every statistical category, including points (173), field goals (51), 3-pointers (29), steals (45) and free throws made. She tied a career high with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting with two steals and two assists, as she led Idaho its first-ever win over Hawai`i on Feb. 1. She played in and started all 28 games and extended her career streak to 85 games played.

2007-08: Otero started 16 games and played in all 29 for the Vandals in her sophomore season, to extend her streak of consecutive games played to 57. She grabbed 30 steals, dished out 56 assists and averaged 2.8 points, 1.6 rebounds and 21.5 minutes per game. She was 30-of-94 from the field for a .319 average. She grabbed a season-high six rebounds and scored six points with a pair of assists in the 42-31 win over Colorado State. For the season, she shot .375 from beyond the 3-point arc. She hit 3-of-4 from the field, dished three assists, secured one steal and scored 10 points in the 77-66 win over San Jose State on March 1.

2006-07: Otero was an important part of the Vandal team as a freshman, as she ran the point and started every game. She earned a spot on the WAC All-Freshman Team after leading the conference in assists and assist-to-turnover ratio, with 4.5 assists per game and a ratio of 1.24. She also led the WAC in minutes played at 36.71 per game and was the only player in the WAC with more than 100 assists. She had a streak of nine straight games with at least five assists and had back-to-back nine-assist games against Fresno State and Nevada to start the WAC season.

High School: Charlotte Otero comes to the University of Idaho from San Diego, Calif., where she led San Diego High to four league championships and three straight sectionals. While she was at SDHS, the team never lost a league game and compiled an impressive 56-0 record. As a senior Otero dished out 280 assists for an 8.8 per-game average. She also recorded 76 steals. During her junior season, Otero helped lead her squad to the California state championship game. Her career assists total ranks her second all-time in San Diego history and sixth all-time in California state history. Otero was also a viable scoring option, as she notched 9.8 points per game for her career.

Personal: She is the daughter of Luis and Flordeliza Otero. She has one sister, Kathyrine, and one brother, Luis. She is majoring in Marketing at Idaho.
