Head coach Stephanie Young took the helm of the Vandal women’s program in the spring of 2022 after 16 years as the head coach at Bowling Green State in Ohio.
In less than four seasons as head coach, Young has led Idaho to seven top-three team finishes, four individual championships and 10 Vandal players have earned All-Conference recognition. Idaho has maintained a perfect APR score and a high team GPA. The program's scoring average has seen steady improvement from 303.07 (2021-22) to 295.13 (2023-24).
In 2024-25, the Vandals earned the team win at the Tri-State Invitational and a second-place finish at the Bobcat Desert Classic. Emma Kang tied for the top spot at the Tri-State Invitational and Zoe Newell tied for the top spot at the Bobcat Desert Classic. Idaho tallied a fifth-place finish at the Big Sky Championship and Emma Heyman, Emma Kang and Zoe Newell all finished in the top-25.
Newell and Kang earned All-Big Sky Honorable Mention honors.
In 2023-24, her second full season as the head coach, Young led Idaho to the win at the EWU Eagle Invite, a second-place team finish at the BGSU Women’s Intercollegiate and a third-place team finish at the Bobcat Desert Classic. Yvonne Vinceri earned medalist honors at the Eagle Invitational while freshman Zoe Newell tied for the top spot at the BGSU Women’s Intercollegiate. Idaho finished sixth at the Big Sky Championship and freshman Emma Kang finished 13th individually.
Vinceri earned First-Team All-Big Sky Recognition and freshmen Zoe Newell and Emma Kang earned Second-Team honors. On the academic side, Jenna Bruggeman and Boram Jung earned CSC Academic All-District honors and four Vandals picked up WGCA All-American Scholar Recognition.
In 2022-23, her first full-season as the head coach, the Vandals earned two second-place team finishes and a fourth-place finish in the regular season before closing out the year with a seventh-place finish at the Big Sky Championship. Vicky Tsai earned a runner-up finish at the Bobcat Spring Invitational.
Tsai earned second-team All-Big Sky honors while Vinceri was named to the third team. Baipor Khunsri earned Honorable Mention honors.Boram Jung and Jenna Bruggeman earned WGCA All-American Scholar Team Honors.
In her first spring as head coach, the Vandals finished fsixth at the Red Rocks Invitational and fourth at the Big Sky Conference Championship. Vinceri finishing third at Big Sky Championship at one-over for the tournament to earn first-team All-Tournament honors. Valaria Patino finished T9th at five-over. Tsai and Patino earned second-team All-Conference honors. Eddie Hsu and Yvonne Vinceri earned Honorable Mention recognition. Jenna Bruggeman was named WGCA Scholar All-America Team.
During her time at BGSU, Young has guided the Falcons to a school-record 12 team tournament titles and 11 individual tournament titles.
In a three-year span from 2011-14, the Falcons set a new BGSU team season scoring average record starting with a 318.57 mark in 2011-12, followed by a 311.26 stroke average in 2012-13 and a new BGSU team record of 311.22 season stroke average in 2013-14. The Falcons shattered that record in 2015-16 with a team scoring average of 307.83 overall on the year. The 2017-18 season average of 310.93 ranks second-best all-time.
Over Young's tenure, her players set school records for Team Season Scoring Average, Individual Season and Career Scoring Average 18,36,54-hole individual round scores 18,36,54-hole team round scores Freshman Scoring Average Highest Individual Conference Finish.
Her teams have also performed well in the classroom. Four times, her teams finished in the top 25 in GPA for team GPA, finishing 11th in 2006-07. Bowling Green also received NCAA APR Public Recognition for eight straight seasons after finishing among the top-10 percent in APR for DI women's golf programs.
Three Bowling Green golfers earned Mid American Conference Sportswoman of the Year honors.
Prior to BGSU, Young was an assistant golf professional at Sylvania Country Club for three years. During that time, she served as an assistant coach for the St. Ursula Academy's varsity golf team, where the team made two State Championship tournament appearances. In addition, she served as a USGA intern for the Toledo District Golf Association, worked for the Toledo Junior Golf Association, and worked under head teaching professional James P. McGurk, who has been named the #1 instructor in Ohio by Golf Magazine.
Young earned both her bachelor's degree in 2002 (Business Management) and her MBA in 2003 from the University of Toledo. She was also a four-year letterwinner and captain of the UT Women's Golf team from 1998-2002. Young helped her team win eight team titles and in 2000 she was the individual champion at the Bowling Green State Invitational.
