High School: Richards played her prep ball for Junction City High School. She was a 2005 First Team All-State honoree at the 3A level in Oregon and was the 2005 All-Sky Em League Player of the Year. She was also a three-time First Team All-Sky Em League honoree from 2003-05, a Second Team honoree in 2002 and a three-year team captain.

At Clackamas CC: Richards helped Clackamas to a 17-0-1 league record, 19-2-2 overall record and the 2007 NWAAC Championship. In 2006, she helped lead the team to a 14-5-1 record and a third-place Regional finish. As the designated corner-kicker for Clackamas, Richards tallied 11 assists and one goal in 2007. As a defender, she helped the Cougars set a school record for shutouts with 13 in 2007, with a 0.43 goals allowed average in league games. In 2006, she helped lead the Cougars to 10 shutouts.

Personal: She is the daughter of Robert and Barbara Richards. She has three brothers, Bobby, Brian and Eric. She intends to major in Business at Idaho.
