Katie Schoene

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

The 2011 season marks Katie Schoene's fourth year with Idaho. She has helped lead the Vandal program to new levels in her three seasons as an assistant. Schoene manages team travel and assists with recruiting in addition to her coaching duties, which focus on field players.

In Schoene's third season in 2010, Idaho's women posted the best year in school history. The Vandals went 14-7 overall and 5-3 in the Western Athletic Conference for a team-best third-place finish, and qualified for the first conference tournament in school history. They won the Governor's Cup title to claim in-state bragging rights for the second year in a row, and earned four all-WAC honors.

Idaho's 2010 team also earned a National Soccer Coaches Association of America West Region ranking for the first time in school history, and climbed as high as ninth, as voted by the region's coaches. The Vandals were also one of the more balanced teams in the conference, as 10 different players scored at least one goal and seven different Idaho players registered an assist.

In 2009, the team posted the nation's second-best win improvement by adding eight wins and going 9-10 overall. It was also the best turnaround in school history. The 2009 squad scored 25 goals, the most in eight years by Idaho, and the team ranked third or better in every offensive statistical category in WAC play.

Schoene came to Idaho from Oregon, where she was an assistant for one season following a four-year playing career at Portland State. She was a midfielder for the Vikings from 2003-06. She played in 62 games as a center mid and scored one goal with one assist. She earned honorable mention all-Big Sky Conference and NSCAA College Women Scholar All-West Region honorable mention accolades in 2006 as a senior. She was also a three-time Academic All-Big Sky selection.

Schoene holds a United States Soccer Federation 'C' coaching license. She graduated from Portland State in 2007 with a degree in Speech Communication. She is originally from Seattle, Wash.
