Biography

QUOTING COACH BUCHANAN: "Sarah has developed into an outstanding right side hitter who is a true all-around player. She is one of our best passers and is solid offensively and defensively."

2007: Played in 110 games and started all 30 matches... earned second team all-WAC honors... ranked seventh in the WAC for blocks (1.16)... ranked seventh in WAC games for blocks (1.27) and ninth for hitting percentage (.259)... ranked second on the team for kills (313), hitting percentage (.225), assists (102), blocks (128), and points (394.5)... totaled 123 block assists to tie for eighth on Idaho’s all-time single season records list... set four career highs vs. Boise State with 26 kills, 26 digs, seven assists and three service aces... totaled eight double-doubles and three matches of 20-plus kills... had 11 matches with a hitting percentage of at least .300... earned her first career all-tournament honor at the Idaho Classic Tournament... shared Idaho’s Most Valuable Player honors with Haley Larsen... was a WAC all-academic selection.

2006: Played in 86 games and started 11 matches... ranked third on the team in blocks (67) and blocks per game (.78)... had a career-high for hitting percentage vs. Saint Mary’s (.625)... had a career-high for assists at Louisiana Tech (4)... was a WAC All-Academic selection for the second-consecutive season... was selected as the team’s Kathy Clark Scholar Athlete award winner.

2005: Played in 107 games as a redshirt freshman and led the Vandals in blocks with 125... also led the team in hitting percentage at .282 for the season... earned All-WAC freshman team honors... was selected as the WAC Player of the Week after leading the Vandals to wins over New Mexico State and Louisiana Tech... recorded a career-high 13 kills against New Mexico State... ended the season ranked seventh in the WAC with 1.17 blocks per game... one of only two freshman listed in the top-10 in that category... also ranked 10th in the conference in hitting percentage... had six double-figure kill matches... was a WAC All-Academic selection.

At West Linn High School: Was a member of the Lions 2003 state champion volleyball team that went 41-1... the Lions went undefeated in Three Rivers League action... recorded 40 kills and 17 blocks at the Oregon 4A State Championships... had five kills in the championship game against Jesuit... the Lions took third at state in 2002... member of the Portland Volleyball Club, her team finished third in 2004 at the prestigious Volleyball Festival at Davis, Calif.

Personal: Full name is Sarah Elizabeth Loney... born Aug. 19, 1986 at Portland, Ore. ... daughter of Doug and Jennifer Loney... has one sister, Melissa... was an honor student and member of the National Honor Society... also participated in basketball and track... majoring in sports science.
