Tim Mooney joined the University of Idaho as Associate Athletics Directory for External Operations in April 2008. In 2021, he was promoted to his current title as Deputy AD for Internal Operations.

As the Deputy Director, he currently serves on the athletics senior leadership team, providing comprehensive oversight for 16 NCAA Division I programs. He serves as the sport oversight for the football and swim and dive programs. Mooney also serves as the athletic department's liaison in numerous capital projects including; the Kibbie Dome renovation and club room project, ICCU Arena, McCluskey Indoor Track, and the new East Practice Field Turf projects. 

Mooney has been a member of the Big Sky Conference Basketball Championships Committee since 2016. He has also served as the Tournament Manager for the 2016 NCAA Men's Basketball Championships preliminary rounds and the 2018 & 2022 NCAA Women's Championships regionals hosted in Spokane, Wash. He was responsible for oversight of all areas of hosting the event including host operations, administration, and the creation of the participating teams' manuals.

In his first role with external operations, he oversaw Idaho’s annual giving, endowments, facility fundraising, marketing, sponsorships, ticket sales, and media relations and communications.

From August 2000 until April 2008, Mooney served at Washington State University, first as head baseball coach from 2000-2004, then as Associate Director of Athletic Development.

Mooney worked at the College of Idaho from 1981-2000 as an Assistant Professor from 1982-1987 and Head Baseball Coach from 1986-2000. Mooney’s team won the NAIA National Championship in 1998 and Mooney was the NAIA’s National Baseball Coach of the Year. Mooney coached the baseball team to consecutive NAIA National Championship appearances with over 500 wins. He was inducted into the College of Idaho Hall of Fame twice, one as a coach in 2008 and the other as a member of the 1998 National Championship Team in 2011.

Mooney earned his B.S. in Education from Idaho in 1980 and got his Master’s in Education from Idaho in 1981. While at Idaho he was a four-year letter-winner for the baseball team.

Mooney is joined in Moscow by his wife Hollie and their two children, Bryn and Brady.
