Men's tennis continues strong play

MOSCOW, Idaho - The University of Idaho men's tennis team continued a strong showing at the tournament it is hosting. The Vandals sent two doubles teams to the semifinals, have an all-Vandal match up in the Flight Two semis and had very encouraging results in the tournament's top-flight matches.

"We played really well today," Idaho assistant coach Kula Oda said. "We are so far of where we were last year. Our players are really starting to piece together things on the court and it's showing up in their results."

Two of those players, Chris Faulman and Fredrik von Sydow, face off tomorrow in the second Flight Two semifinal. That pairing assures Idaho of having someone in the Flight Two final. The other semifinal was played Saturday with Braden Olson of Montana State defeating Beck Roghaar of Boise State to earn a berth in the final.

Stephen DeSilva and Eddie Brisbois each lost heartbreaking matches in the Flight One quarterfinals and each lost to Boise State opponents. DeSilva lost to top seed Mark Roberts, while Brisbois was bested by Matias Silva.

Brad Lum-Tucker bounced back from a tough loss Friday to cruise into the Flight One consolation semifinals. Lum-Tucker defeated B.J. Hauck of Montana State, 6-2, 6-0.

Lum-Tucker teamed with Brisbois to reach the doubles semifinals, as did von Sydow with former Idaho player Amod Wakalkar, who is playing unattached at the event. Both doubles tandems lost to Boise State duos, with the doubles final now an all-Bronco affair.

The finals for each flight's winners bracket and consolation bracket are Sunday, Sept. 23 at 12:30 p.m. The doubles final will follow.
