Crater throws career best mark of 196-1

PULLMAN, Wash. - Sophomore Sarah Fischer hurled the javelin 149 feet 7 inches this weekend at the Third Annual Cougar Invitational to break the meet record and claim first place in the event. The old record of 147-6 was set by WSU's Molly Monroe in 2000. The mark was a career best for Fischer and currently ranks her second in the Big West Conference. Freshman Cathy Schmidt finished in second with a throw of 138-5.

In the pole vault, sophomore Christi Bentley broke her University of Idaho record reaching a height of 11-9?ľ. Bentley set the record during the 2000 season when she cleared 11-6?Ľ. The career best mark for Bentley currently ranks her sixth in the Big West.

Senior Brenda Nipp sped to first place in the 400-meter dash for a career best time of 56.03 seconds. In the 200-meter dash freshman Tanya Pater and sophomore Heather Hoeck finished in second and third with times of 25.16 and 25.20.

On the men's side senior T.J. Crater also put up a career best mark in the hammer. Crater's throw of 196-1 placed him in second. Crater is currently ranked second in the Big West Conference in the event, just seven inches behind the leader.

Senior Simon Stewart continued to do well in the shot put finishing in first with a throw of 60-2 and in the discus Joachim Olsen placed first with a mark of 178-3.

The men also finished well in the sprints. Senior Nikela Ndebele placed first in the 100-meter dash with a time of 10.41 and in the 200-meter dash Sherwin James ran a time of 22.00 to finish in first.

The Vandals are at home next Sunday to host the Vandal Jamboree.
