Women's tennis shuts out Gonzaga

SPOKANE, Wash. - Three times may be a charm, but three matches meant three victories for Idaho women's tennis this weekend. The Vandal defeated Gonzaga 7-0 Feb. 21 to wrap up a trio of matches on the Palouse and climb to 5-3 on the season. UI coach Greg South was proud of the performance his women gave in the three back-to-back matches.

"Our women have really stepped up their play to get on this roll," South said. "Each day we've been improving and meeting our goals and today was another step in that process."

Barbora Kudilkova keyed the Idaho victory at the top spot in the order with a straight-sets victory. She also teamed with Vida Senci for a victory at No. 1 doubles. Senci won at No. 3 singles 6-2, 6-3. The Vandals swept all nine matches and did not drop a set all day.

This was the last match for the Idaho women before they head to Hawaii for their six-day, six-match spring break trip. The Vandals begin their trip March 17 against Oral Roberts and conclude March 22 at the University of Hawaii. UI also faces Sacramento State, Hawaii Pacific, Hawaii-Hilo and BYU Hawaii during the weeklong trip.
