MOSCOW, Idaho– The Idaho Vandals came up just short in a close Sunday matinee, falling 4-3 to the Portland State Vikings.
The Vandals traveled to Portland, Oregon this week for the first of three away matches to finish their season. The match started on time at 10 a.m. with doubles play, but despite their preparation, Idaho lost the doubles point to the Vikings.
As singles play unfolded, the Vandals battled fiercely to keep pace with the Vikings. Hanna Koprowska and Soha Singh delivered commanding straight-set victories on courts three and six, injecting hope into the Idaho lineup. Losses on courts one and two kept the Vandals trailing by a match. On court four, Valentina Rodas surged ahead 6-2 in the first set, stumbled in the second, but clawed her way back in a tense 7-6 finish to even the score. With everything riding on the final match, Ida Johansson gave a gritty performance but ultimately fell in three hard-fought sets, 6-4, 2-6, 4-6.
