CHENEY, Wash. - The University of Idaho men's tennis team earned its third consecutive 7-0 shut-out, this time against Eastern Washington.
"We fought hard and we had fun," tennis coach Katrina Perlman said. "They believe in themselves and that they can compete with anyone." This win comes despite having to make a change in the line-up.
The match included the debut of Kevin Konishi at the No. 6 spot. Konishi took convincingly took care of his opponent, winning the match against Troy Handwerk, 6-1, 6-4.
"Kevin hasn't played many single matches. To go and play the way he did, that was impressive," Perlman said. "That was a good win for him."
This change also bumped Seth Banks and James Cromwell up a spot as well. Both took wins at their respective spots. Banks defeated Eric Eggers, 6-2, 6-2. Cromwell and Brandon Hair stretched the match to three and Cromwell came out the victor, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.
"Seth and James moved up a position and still came out with the win. They stepped up to the challenge."
For doubles, UI took the doubles point by winning at the No. 1 and 2 spots. Brad Lum-Tucker and Chris Faulman's match against Eggers and Michael Mosback had the largest margin of victory, 8-1.
"Chris and Brad had a really good doubles match. They took charge from the beginning."
Next up, the Vandals face LCSC for their second meeting this season, 5 p.m., Feb. 27 at Lewiston.
