Katie Schlotthauer has signed a letter-of-intent to attend the University of Idaho and play for the Vandal women's basketball team next fall.
Schlotthauer, the daughter of former Idaho men's basketball player David Schlotthauer, is a 5-11 post player who will graduate from Newport High School at Newport, Wash., in June.
As a senior at Newport High School, Schlotthauer averaged 17.4 points and 12.1 rebounds per game and was named as the all-Great Northern League's Most Valuable Player. She also amassed more than 1,000 points during her high school tenure.
"Katie is a very good inside-outside type of player with both perimeter and post skills," head coach Mike Divilbiss said. "She is physically a strong person and we feel she will really develop in our system and be a great player. She is a great person and fits with our current players very well."
Schlotthauer's father was a four-year letterwinner for the Vandals from 1963-67 who is currently ranked eighth all-time at Idaho in rebounding average (8.5 rpg) and 10th all-time in rebounds (601).
"Katie is excited to have the opportunity to be playing for the same university her dad played for," Divilbiss said.
Divilbiss has intentions of signing another quick guard to compliment his current backcourt and another player of size during the spring signing period.
"We are very pleased with our recruiting thus far and we are still going to be looking to recruit more quickness and size," Divilbiss said. "We have gotten some great players who we feel will fit our current players, most importantly, but also fit us as coaches and this program. We are trying to build a sense of family in our program and our new players will be a good fit."
