COLUMBIA, MO. -- The Vandal volleyball team continued to roll Saturday morning at the Missouri Tiger Invitational as they defeated Arkansas state in four games. Game scores were 30-17, 30-26, 27-30, and 30-14. Idaho will now face host Missouri in the final game of the tournament at 7 p.m. CDT.
"We played 100 times better today than we did yesterday," head coach Debbie Buchanan said. "We started really strong winning the first game and then got into a little slump in the second game. In the third game we just came out flat but in game four we stuck it to them and played about as good as you can get."
The Vandals out-hit the Indians in every game except for the third one. In game four they hit a scorching .515 percent (20-3-33) compared to .105 for the Indians. For the match Idaho out-hit Arkansas State .316 to .165, out-dug them 82 to 60, and out blocked them 9 to 4.
Brooke Haeberle led all players with 20 kills and also added 13 digs. Kati Tikker added 19 kills for the match. Mandy Becker recorded 66 assists and 19 digs while Meghan Brown recorded a career high 27 digs.
"The outsides played good and that's the type of production that we need from them," Buchanan said.
Giedre Tarnauskaite and Phillipa Soulsby led Arkansas State with 15 kills apiece. The Indians (5-3) will look for the first win of the tournament later this afternoon against Creighton.
"Tonight we need to get in a good offensive flow and block and dig," Buchanan said. "Missouri is a beatable team but we need to play at our level."
Idaho (5-0) will face Missouri tonight at 7 p.m. CDT.
