MOSCOW, Idaho - Bad luck continued to haunt the University of Idaho women's soccer team as Nevada scored a goal with 16 seconds remaining in the second overtime to win 1-0 and increase Idaho's losing streak to 11 games.
A failed clear by the Idaho defense gave Nevada's Miranda Montejo a breakaway with time ticking away and she was able to convert for the only goal of the game. Idaho falls to 2-13-0, 0-4 while Nevada improves to 8-5-1, 2-1.
"I can't believe we didn't win the game in the first place, but we never should have lost," Idaho head coach Pete Showler said. "In a game where we dominated so much and our players played their socks off we deserve our just desserts. It's unfortunate, but that's the game of soccer."
Idaho looked to be the aggressor on the field, but failed to convert on their scoring chances. Although the team was outshot 19-14, the Vandals had five shots on goal and numerous near-misses. Idaho's scoring drought continued as the Vandals failed to score for the fifth-straight game.
"The performances this team put up both Friday and today were fantastic," Showler said. "Today was unbelievable as we controlled every part of the game, creating chances, dominating possessions, we just couldn't finish it off. The players should be very proud of the way they played and we deserved something out of this game."
Lindsay Smith grabbed four saves in the goal for Idaho and Courtney Evans led the team with four shots.
Idaho will hit the road again for a non-conference game at Long Beach State, Tuesday, before returning home to host Boise State, Sunday.
