MOSCOW, Idaho – Idaho soccer closes out its two-match road trip through South Dakota on Sunday, taking on South Dakota State at 10 AM. PST at Fishback Soccer Park.
The Vandals enter Sunday's matchup with a 4-1-1 record after the 1-0 victory over South Dakota on Thursday night. Alyssa Hamilton provided the lone goal for Idaho, finding the back of the net in the 34th minute, giving the Vandals their second road win of the season.
Idaho goalkeeper Paula Flores made history in the match, recording the 21st shutout of her career to become the program's all-time leader in clean sheets. Flores made two saves in the win as the Vandal defense held strong against South Dakota's 15 shot attempts.
The Black and Gold have continued to find success on both ends of the field in the opening 6 matches of the season. Idaho has now earned their second back-to-back shutout victories after defeating CSU Bakersfield and South Dakota, while the offense has continued to generate opportunities. Against the Coyotes, Idaho finished with 17 shots, including four on goal, as Georgia Whitehead led the attack with a game-high six attempts.
South Dakota State has put together a strong start to the season, including a 3-0 victory over Washington State. The result mirrors Idaho's own performance against the Cougars earlier this season, when the Vandals also earned a 3-0 win in the Battle of the Palouse.
With both teams defeating Washington State by the same score, Sunday's matchup brings together two sides that have already shown their ability to produce convincing results against a common opponent.
The Jackrabbits were selected to finish second in the Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll, receiving two first-place votes and 44 points. SDSU has shown its effectiveness in the offense throughout the opening weeks of the season, including an 11-goal performance against MSU Moorhead and five goals against Western Illinois.
Sunday's matchup will give Idaho another strong non-conference test as the Vandals look to complete a perfect road trip and extend their winning streak to three matches. Idaho aims to carry its defensive momentum into Brookings while continuing to create opportunities against a South Dakota State team that has proven dangerous in the attacking third.
Kickoff between the Vandals and Jackrabbits is scheduled for 10 AM PST on Sunday at Fishback Soccer Park.
