LOGAN, Utah - The University of Idaho volleyball team continued its solid league play running their Western Athletic Conference winning streak to four in a 3-1 defeat of Utah State, Thursday at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Match scores were 29-31, 30-19, 30-23, 30-19.
With the win Idaho improves to 6-12 overall and 5-1 in WAC play. Utah State fell to 10-13 and 3-6 in the WAC. The win was the first victory for Idaho in Logan since October 3, 1998.
"Tonight was a great team effort," head coach Debbie Buchanan said. "I am proud of the team; we had some high attack percentages. Add to that our first win against the Aggies in Utah and it was a great win."
The Vandals out hit the Aggies in the match, Idaho hit a solid .219 to .084 for Utah State. The Vandals held a slight edge in digs as they recorded 59 to the Aggies 58. Idaho also held a decisive advantage in service aces, 12 to 3.
Redshirt freshman Debbie Pederson paced the Idaho attack as she hit at a nearly 43 percent clip, .429. Pederson notched 12 kills and four block assists.
Erin Curtis also had a good night on the attack as she recorded 13 kills. Curtis also had three service aces, and six total blocks, including one solo.
Hailey Jeppson had a solid attacking night for the Aggies as she collected 13 kills and one service ace and block.
Idaho returns to the court when they face the University of Nevada, Saturday at 7 p.m. The match will be televised on College Sports TV.
