MOSCOW, Idaho - The University of Idaho women's swimming team was impressive Friday night as they beat Cal State Northridge University, 139-66. Freshman Crystal Streight won two individual events to help lead Idaho to victory.
"Crystal had a great meet," head coach Tom Jager said. "She was getting close to JoJo Miller times. They will push each other when JoJo gets back, and they will do some damage at the WAC Championships."
The Vandals opened the meet with a big win in the 200 medley relay. Jager highlighted that race as the race that got the meet started on the right foot. He praised junior Sara Peterson for her efforts in the relay.
"Sara made the difference in the first relay," Jager said. "She is a junior and she really understands what it means to race."
The first relay was one that the Vandals needed to get them going, and Jager mentioned that the score did not reflect the quality of team they were facing.
"They came in a lot more powerful than we expected," Jager said. "It was great for us. They made us swim better. It could have gone either way, but we stepped up to the challenge."
Individual winners for Idaho were Mandy Stone (50 freestyle, 25.20), Streight (400 IM, 4:38.65 and 200 breaststroke, 2:26.60), Paige Lee (200 butterfly, 2:11.83), Peterson (100 freestyle, 54.27), Kacie Hogan (200 backstroke, 2:12.18), and Cortnee Hanson (500 freestyle, 5:18.07).
The Vandals return to the UI Swim Center Saturday Oct. 21 to host San Jose State at 11 a.m.
