Vandals stumble against San Jose State

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The University of Idaho volleyball team was swept by the San Jose State Spartans, Saturday in Spartan Gym, falling 24-30, 24-30, and 22-30.

With the loss Idaho drops to 9-16 overall and 8-5 in the Western Athletic Conference. SJSU improves to 17-10 overall and 8-6 in the WAC.

"San Jose played great and we just didn't play to our level," coach Debbie Buchanan said. "Passing was a struggle tonight, plus we didn't block or play defense like we are capable. There were some things we can take from this heading into next week, with a tough week ahead of us playing Nevada and Hawai'i."

Erin Curtis led the attack for Idaho, as she recorded 11 kills and two digs. Amanda Bowman had nine kills on the night while adding two aces and 14 digs. Sarah Loney was also solid on the attack as she hit .375 and had eight kills.

Stacy Sode continued her solid play as she had 19 digs. Sode has 54 digs in the last two games. Her 469 digs leave her 50 short of the team record for digs in a season (519), held by Meghan Brown.

The Vandals return home for their final home stand of the season, beginning Wednesday when they face Nevada, the match is set to begin at 7 p.m., and will be televised nationally on CSTV.
