Vandals hammer Wolf Pack

MOSCOW, Idaho - In front of 1,053 fans in Memorial Gym and many more watching on their televisions all across America, Idaho's volleyball team swept Nevada, 3-0, Wednesday night to earn its 10th victory of the season. Game scores were 30-24, 30-23 and 30-20.

Idaho improves to 10-16 on the season and 9-5 in Western Athletic Conference play. Nevada falls to 15-13 overall and 9-6 in the WAC.

"We just played better tonight (than in the season's first meeting with Nevada)," coach Debbie Buchanan said. "If you look at the stats we had only 14 errors and they committed 25 that is a big part of any win. Hitting .294 while holding them to .092, that is huge and that says we played a good game defensively too. We were able to stay in system and block and dig well tonight."

Idaho took advantage of a Nevada team that is just 3-7 on the road in the victory.

"The game in Reno was a real battle," Nevada coach Devin Scruggs said. "We have struggled on the road all season long, I am not sure why. If I knew I would probably fix it."

Amanda Bowman was one of two Vandals with more than 10 kills on the night as she recorded 13. Saxony Brown had an even 10.

"Saxony played well tonight she hit a high percentage and did some good things for us," Buchanan said.

Sarah Loney also had a strong game for the Vandals as she recorded eight kills, hitting a game-high .438.

"Tonight felt good, we played amazing," Loney said. "This gives us some momentum heading into Friday night's match with Hawai'i."

Stacy Sode had a game high 17 digs as she continues closing in on the single-season digs record held by, Meghan Brown. Her total is 486 putting her within 33 of tying the record.

Idaho returns to the court Friday when they face the Rainbow Wahine of Hawai'i, the match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
