FRESNO, Calif. - The University of Idaho volleyball team won its ninth match of the season Thursday night as the team defeated Fresno State in four games, at the Save Mart Center, in Fresno, Calif. Game scores were 28-30, 30-26, 30-28, 30-28.
With the win Idaho improves to 9-15 overall and 8-4 in the Western Athletic Conference. Fresno falls to 2-11 in the conference and 4-21 overall.
"We got the win, it wasn't pretty, but we won," head coach Debbie Buchanan said. "We passed for a pretty low percentage, but we did some things and got the win. We need to pass better going into the weekend. Fresno played great, they were much better than the first time we played them."
Three Vandals had double-digit kills on the night led by Haley Larsen who recorded 19. Amanda Bowman had 13 and Saxony Brown had 12 kills on the night. Debbie Pederson nearly joined them as she had nine kills.
Idaho hit .240 on the night while holding Fresno to .195. Despite Stacy Sode's 35 digs the Vandals were out dug by the Bulldogs, 98-95. Sode was one of four Vandals in double digits for digs on the night Bowman had 14, Kelsey Yonker pulled in 13 and Brown chipped in with 12.
Idaho returns to the court Saturday when they travel to San Jose to face the Spartans. The match begins at 7 p.m.
