FULLERTON, Calif. - The University of Idaho women's soccer team was held scoreless for its second consecutive match in a 4-0 loss at Cal State Fullerton.
"Cal State Fullerton is a quality side full of confident players. They took their chances very well and made us pay for mistakes like a quality team does," Idaho coach Pete Showler said.
The Vandals trailed 1-0 at the half and didn't allow another goal until the 69th minute. Idaho then allowed two more goals in the final 20 minutes of the contest.
"We played very well for the first 70 minutes of the game," Showler said. "We contained and kept our shape, but we need to learn to play that way for the entire 90 minutes. A lapse in concentration led to a goal late in the second half and we weren't the same team after that. Cal State Fullerton took full advantage of that. We play these games to see what level we need to get to, but we can't keep making the same mistakes and expect to get anything from the games."
Idaho managed just one shot in the contest compared to 26 by Cal State Fullerton. The also held the advantage in corner kicks,12-0. Cal State Fullerton's goals came in the 24th, 69th, 76th and the 83rd minutes.
Next up for the Vandals is the Governor's Cup Tournament at Boise, Idaho. Idaho will take on Idaho State Friday (Sept. 1) at 1:30 p.m. and Montana (Sept. 3) at 10:30 p.m.
