PULLMAN, Wash. - The University of Idaho volleyball team ground out an extra-points victory in game one of its match with Washington State, Wednesday night, but fell in the match, losing 3-1. Match scores were 32-30, 20-30, 25-30, 25-30.
With the loss, Idaho falls to 0-9 on the year, while WSU improves to 12-1.
"I thought we played great in the first game, but we committed to many errors, 13 service errors and 35 hitting errors is too many, to expect to win," head coach Debbie Buchanan said.
Idaho jumped out to a 1-0 lead after holding the Cougars to .042 hitting in the first game, while hitting .163. The Vandals trailed 28-26, late in the match, but pushed through to win the match, 32-30.
In the second game WSU hit .447 to tie the match at one apiece going into intermission.
"Volleyball is a game of momentum, and I think that we lost some of it in the second game," Buchanan said. "But that's why we play five games and we weren't able to keep playing at the level we needed to."
The Vandals will have a day off Thursday, before facing WSU at Memorial Gym in their home opener. The match begins at 7 p.m.
