Saint Mary's tops Vandal volleyball

 

LONG BEACH, Calif., - The University of Idaho volleyball team fell in three straight games to Saint Mary's College (Calif.) Friday night at the Long Beach State Tournament.

 

The loss drops Idaho to 0-7. Saint Mary???s improved to 4-4 with the win.

 

"We came out flat today," head coach Debbie Buchanan said. "We didn't get into any kind of rhythm on offense or defense."

 

The Gaels jumped out to a 1-0 lead as they took game one behind the strength of a .594 hitting percentage, while holding the Vandals to .097 hitting.

 

Saint Mary's out dug Idaho on the night as the Gaels reached 44 balls to the Vandals 31.

 

Christina Kirk led the attack for Saint Mary's hitting .688 and tabbing a game-high 12 digs.

 

Idaho returns to the court Saturday at 7 p.m., when they face tournament host Long Beach State.
