CORVALLIS, Ore. - The University of Idaho swim team fell to Oregon State University at Corvallis, Ore., Friday, 117-75.
With their fifth straight loss, the Vandals drop to 8-8 on the season. The loss drops the Vandals to 2-9 all-time in head-to-head matches versus the Beavers and marks their third consecutive loss in the series.
Despite the loss, Idaho coach Tom Jager said he was impressed with the team's performance against its PAC-10 opponent.
"Sometimes when you get in competitions where you are against better teams, you have to stay within yourself, and still perform well," Jager said. "Our team did exactly that. They didn't worry about the competition and they swam their own races."
Idaho's lone win of the night came when junior Kacie Hogan won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:05.43. Hogan finished more than nine seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.
Junior Paige Lee also turned in a strong performance with a second in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:10.64.
The Vandals 200-yard freestyle relay team consisting of Wight, Sara Peterson, Katie Kolva, and Mandy Stone, swam one its better races of the season to place second with a time of 1:41.55 - just two seconds off the Idaho's best time of the season
