SEATTLE, Wash. – Twenty seven turnovers and a 14-of-51
shooting performance were too much for the Idaho women's basketball team to
overcome as Seattle University took advantage and claimed a 62-43 victory
Saturday afternoon.
The Vandals fall to 6-3 with the loss, while Seattle U
improved to 3-6. The Redhawks scored 29 of their points off of Idaho's 27
turnovers, and held a 19-10 advantage in points off the bench.
Idaho never found its rhythm offensively, shooting just
1-of-16 from 3-point range. Yinka Olorunnife led the Vandals with 14 points and
eight rebounds, and went 10-for-11 from the free throw line. Rachele Kloke
finished with 12 points, six rebounds and two blocks for Idaho.
Seattle hit 24-of-61 (.393) shots for the game including
9-of-20 (.450) 3-pointers, and outrebounded the Vandals 41-36. The Redhawks
turned the ball over 23 times, leading to 14 Idaho points.
Jessica Graham made her season debut for the Vandals after
recovering from a knee injury that cut her season short last year. She shot
2-for-3 from the field and finished with four points and two rebounds in six
minutes of action.
The Vandals trailed by just one at 17-16 with six and a half
minutes to play in the first half before Seattle closed out the half on a 16-2
run to take a 33-18 lead into the break.
The game was the first of five straight road games for the
Vandals. Idaho will visit Gonzaga on Dec. 17, before traveling to Saint Mary's
(Dec. 23) and Portland (Dec. 30), and opening Western Athletic Conference play
at Nevada on Jan. 6.
