EUGENE, Ore. - Three University of Idaho track and field athletes ended their decorated careers on Friday, the third day of action at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore.
Mykael Bothum, a two-time indoor All-American, finished 19th in the women's shot put with a toss of 51-4.25 (15.65m) at her first career outdoor championship meet. She ends her career as the indoor and outdoor school record holder in the shot put and a three-time Western Athletic Conference champion.
Beau Whitney put together a strong series and finished 19th in the men's hammer throw with a best mark of 201-4 (61.37m) in his first career NCAA Championships action. A 12-time all-WAC honoree, the senior from New Meadows, Idaho, finishes his career ranked fourth in Idaho history in the hammer.
James Rogan finished 22nd in the men's hammer after fouling twice in the opening round before hitting a toss of 193-11 (59.12m). Rogan finishes his career as a two-time NCAA qualifier, a two-time WAC champion, two-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Division I All-Academic selection, an 11-time all-WAC honoree, and the Idaho school record holder in the hammer throw.
Idaho's seventh and final competitor of the weekend, junior Eugenio Mannucci, will get started in the men's shot put at 9:40 a.m.
