2008: Whitney had a career year in 2008, as he nailed personal bests in the indoor and outdoor shot put, the 35-lb. weight throw, the discus throw and the hammer throw. He earned his first career NCAA Regional trip in the discus throw after hitting 51.92m (170-4) in a third-place effort at the WAC Outdoor Championships, where he earned first-team all-WAC honors. He threw a lifetime-best 52.13m (171-0) at the NCAA West Regional and finished 16th. Whitney also earned his second career all-WAC second-team honors in the shot put as he took fifth with a toss of 16.12m (52-10.75) and threw a personal-best 56.48m (185-4) in the hammer throw to finish eighth.
2007: Whitney finished eighth in the shot put and 10th in the weight throw at the WAC Indoor Championships. He earned first-team all-WAC mention in the discus throw at the WAC Outdoor Championships with a third place finish, then took sixth in the shot put for second-team mention.
2006: Whitney redshirted the indoor and outdoor seasons.
Personal: He is the son of Kenny and Carol Whitney. He was born Jan. 23, 1987, at McCall, Idaho. He has two brothers, Shaun and Cory. Cory competed in track & field for Eastern Oregon University. Whitney was a three-time Idaho state champion in the discus from 2003-05 and also the 2005 shot put champion. He also competed in football and basketball at Meadows Valley High School.
