PULLMAN, Wash. - The Vandal women's tennis team was a point away from sweeping three matches over the weekend, but Idaho will settle for going 2-1 after beating Seattle University and Portland State, and narrowly losing to Montana.
Molly Knox fell 7-6 in the third set with the match tied 3-3 for Idaho's only loss of the weekend, a 4-3 defeat to the Grizzlies. But Idaho earned a 6-1 win over Seattle on Friday and wrapped up the weekend with a 7-0 win over Portland State on Sunday evening.
"Molly played a great match," Idaho coach Dan Pollock said. "Montana's player won that match, Molly didn't lose it."
The Vandals went a combined 8-1 in doubles matches over the weekend, winning the doubles point in all three contests. Idaho's only blemish in that department was an 8-6 loss at No. 3 doubles against Seattle.
"Doubles are looking fantastic," Pollock said. "In singles we have a couple things to work on but overall we are progressing. We are looking forward to WAC play and by then we should be ready to rock and roll."
Idaho's Almudena Sanz went a perfect 3-0 at No. 2 singles for Idaho over the weekend, as did Alejandra Lozano, who played at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. Victoria Lozano won two of her three singles matches at the No. 1 spot for Idaho.
Idaho will be back in action on Feb. 3 when they visit Gonzaga in Spokane, Wash.
