DENVER, Colo. – The Idaho Vandals couldn't quite keep pace with Denver University in a Western Athletic Conference swim meet but they easily handled the Colorado School of Mines in a meet during which there were several strong performances by the Vandals.

Against Colorado School of Mines, the Vandals won 213-39, while against DU, Idaho fell 173-125 in a Western Athletic Conference meet.

Diver Mairin Jameson qualified for the NCAA Zone Meet with her 291 points to win the three-meter event. She was second in the one-meter dive – but only to teammate Paige Hunt. Hunt had a 260.45 in the one-meter to Jameson's 230.45.

“This was a tough turn around today,” said coach Mark Sowa, whose team ventured to the mile-high venues of Denver and Colorado Springs on back-to-back days, “but I think we actually performed much better and made some really good adjustments.”

Sophomore Rachel Millet notched three individual titles in the 173-125 lose. Millet won the 100 fly (57.00), the 200 free (1:52.92) and the 50 free (23.84) to up her win total for the weekend to five races. Megan Venlos also won Saturday with a 53.70 in the 100 free.

Venlos also was part of the winning 200 free relay team, which, with Jamie Sterbis, Stacy Janelle and Kelsie Saxe each taking a leg, posted a 1:39.16.

“Megan's win in the 100 free was pretty darn cool and Rachel put together three more really good races,” Sowa said. “However, we have a lot to improve upon and a lot still left to do.”
