GREELEY, Colo. - The Idaho women's tennis team continued its winning ways to start the weekend, beating Colorado State 5-2 on Friday night before topping Northern Colorado 4-3 on Saturday night.
The pair of wins gives Idaho three in a row as the Vandals improve to 7-3 on the season.
"That's a good win for us, Colorado State is tough, especially on the road," Idaho coach Dan Pollock said of Idaho's win over the Rams. "With the high altitude it's extremely fast conditions. The girls came out and took care of business in doubles. We played well enough to win that point. In singles even though we didn't play our best tennis we found ways to win. We had a couple girls really step up."
Idaho swept the doubles point against CSU as Beatriz Flores and Vicky Lozano won 8-6 at No. 1, Alejandra Lozano and Molly Knox won 9-7 at No. 2 and Sophie Vickers and Almudena Sanz won 8-4 at No. 3.
Vicky Lozano and Sanz each won at No. 1 and 2 singles, while Vickers and Alejandra Lozano won and No. 4 and 5 singles. Knox fell at No. 3 singles for Idaho and Flores retired at No. 6 singles to give Idaho its 5-2 win.
Idaho dropped the doubles point to open its match against Northern Colorado, but won four of six singles matches to earn the match victory.
"It was very disappointing to lose the doubles point against a team we should be able to take care of," Pollock said after Idaho's win at UNC. "In singles we had several girls step up. I was especially impressed with Sophie so far this weekend as a freshman, stepping up in singles and stepping up in doubles. That really bodes well for her development and makes me excited to see her play more in the future."
Idaho will round out the weekend Sunday as it visits Wyoming at 11 a.m.
