Soccer can't keep up at FIU

MIAMI, Fla. – University of Idaho women's soccer fell behind early and never caught up in a 6-0 loss at Florida International on Sunday at Miami, Fla.

The Vandal women surrendered three goals in the first half, including a header in the closing seconds of the first period, then gave up three breakaway scores in the second half, despite holding a large percentage of possession after the break.

The loss drops Idaho to 2-6-0 on the season, while FIU moves to 3-2-1.

FIU outshot Idaho 22-10 overall and 10-6 on goal. The Golden Panthers earned 11 corners to Idaho's four. Idaho senior goalkeeper Liz Boyden made four saves in 79 minutes of action, including her second career stop of a penalty kick, while FIU's Kaitlyn Savage made six saves to earn the shutout.

Vandal senior Chelsea Small led the team with four total shots and two on-target attempts. FIU's Chelsea Leiva led all players with 10 shots and six on-target attempts, with three goals and one assist.

The Vandal women return to the Palouse this weekend looking to regroup. Idaho plays at Eastern Washington on Friday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m. (PT) and then hosts Washington State on Sunday at Noon at Guy Wicks Field.
